Friulano
DOC Friuli Colli Orientali.
The recent history concerning this very important wine, the flagship wine of Friuli Venezia Giulia, changes the name of "Tocai Friulano" to "Friulano" following agreements between the EEC and Hungary. The analysis of its DNA confirm it as Sauvignonnasse: it is in fact a genetic variant of Sauvignon blanc. The fact that it has adapted particularly well to our region is indicative of how much climate and soil have a unique impact on the expression and character of this variety. The awareness of where Friulano could best express itself was followed by the decision to restore some old vineyards to seize the potential that only the adult vine can give, with the grafting of new vineyards on medium clayey-silty soils to achieve an aromatic dimension and more defined finesse.
